Ben Liebrand – Grand 12-Inches 11

The last 1:27 of track 4-2 is sourced from vinyl. Ben used the master-sourced copy from this 3" CD single for the first 7:20 of the mix, but the he splices into a vinyl-sourced copy for the remainder of the mix. That's because the copy on the 3" single fades out early so he obviously wanted to "complete" the mix any way he could for his compilation, thinking nobody would notice (except nerdy musical sleuths like me LOL)

As always, sound quality is by far the best of any other cd compilation in this genre so since there are not many good 80s extended releases in town, I will give them 5 stars all the time.
Some tracks I did not have (only on vinyl) are Ghost Busters, Rock The Boat and Sia Siou (Breaking Up) but if I am allowed to be a bit picky, I would prefer to see more non-cd released tracks, even if this means transferring from vinyl. There are too many still to mention here as an example.

cdsingles, the same with my copy. A mastering fault here unfortunately, and very annoying indeed.

There are 4 tracks transferred from vinyl on this volume 11:
CD 1: track 6
CD 3: tracks 2 and 5
CD 4: track 2

The dance mix of Chicago's 'Street Player' has been released by Rhino in 2003 on the expanded version of Chicago 13, but I am quite sure that (bonus) track is also transferred from vinyl. So I guess no master tape available here.

The same goes for Rufus & Chaka Khan's 'Do You Love What You Feel' US disco mix: not to be found previously on a Rufus & Chaka Khan or other compilation CD as I am aware of, but no master tape here as well. Rather strange actually for such a big hit.

The 4 vinyl 12 inches were transferred very well though, so don't let this be of discourage.

The Whispers' 'I Can Make It Better' is the album version, there wasn't any 12 inch remix done in 1980. And too bad Ben didn't include the rare 'Ghostbusters (Searchin' For The Spirit)' UK Nick Martinelli and David Todd remix, but the regular extended version, which has been released before on CD many times. The Philly tracks (CD 1, tracks 5 and 8 and CD 4, track 9) were all remixed by Tom Moulton. And very nice to finally see the commercial release of the Tender Mix of Tina Turner's 'Two People', in a somewhat 40 seconds longer version too. Ben asked his Facebook followers a while ago for suggestions to include on this 11th volume. I asked him to include this Tender Mix and his outstanding remix he done of Sheena Easton's 'The Lover In Me'. My post got many likes, and he transferred the 2 mixes from his DAT archive right away. It seems that Sony (for now) could only clear Tina Turner. Hopefully MCA will give clearance for volume 12, so the Ben Liebrand Mix of 'The Lover In Me' gets a decent rebirth - such a good remix.
