- I decided to get this edition because of its good reputation and to see if it would fix the sibilance problems of my 1982 US copy. Honestly, it doesn't sound any better, it has the same (or more sibilance than the other one). Other than the nice packaging, the pretty OBI and the booklet with pictures, I don't see the point in getting this for sound reasons at the price it's selling for now. Better save your money and get a Us edition.
- This Japanese press of MJ’s "Thriller" is legit. Popped it on my turntable and wow, the clarity is just unreal. No crackle, no fuzz, just smooth tunes. The gatefold sleeve is slick too. Never thought I’d be this pumped about an album I’ve heard a million times!
- Edited 8 months agoI can only second the euphoric reviews. The pressing quality is top notch, the vinyl itself plays as silent as a CD. However, it is cut quite hot, high range is a bit more aggressive here than on other e.g. European versions.
- Edited 10 months agoAbsolutely and undoubtedly five stars for this release. Awesome sound - just the right one (soft and tight), thick gatefold, cool additional materials.
Dead quiet surface. - Phenomenal! What a fantastic sounding record. Such dynamics, so much punch. Not the biggest MJ fan, but this pressing sounds AMAZING! Would be very interested to know how this compares to the UHQR.
- I impulse-bought this during a recent trip to Japan and can confirm the many good reviews here. I also have a 1982 US pressing and while this Japanese press doesn't blow it out of the water, it is noticeably better, even to my layman's ears. I think the dead silent vinyl contributes a lot towards that. I already loved Thriller, but this pressing makes me want to spin it even more than usual, just because the sound quality is that good.
- Edited one year agoWhat can i say...must have! Great dynamics, balanced, powerful stereo stage! The vinyl is silent, just the usual japanese high pressing quality!
- Want Thriller? This is the pressing to get!
Record is like you would expect from a Japanese pressing - sounds gorgeous throughout with a wide and dynamic sound and almost non-existent surface noise. Cover is high-quality both visually and physically as well.
Easily the best sounding record in my possesion, highly recommended.
