Reviews
- I honestly cannot agree at all with the other reviews. This reissue sounds like garbage, muffled and kind of like the sound was coming out of a trash can. Horrible.
- Chris Blackwell & Island Records remixed the original Jack Ruby production and apparently stripped it of its original heavy and haunting production. So much so that it deeply angered Winston Rodney.
The dub version Garvey's Ghost was supposedly issued to mollify Rodney. But its reputation is also rather dubious; not a highly regarded dub production, at least as claimed here

Sadly, the original mix of Marcus Garvey does not seem to be available anywhere. Hopefully some day Blood and Fire or another label will issue it.
As for the song Resting Place, it was tacked on the end of the UK release. In Jamaica, it was a separate single release, never part of the LP Marcus Garvey.
See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marcus_Garvey_(album) - I agree with the critics below. Great, great press. Totally unexpected from Back to Black. Every listen is a little trip to The Yard!
- Absolutely fantastic sound on this classic - the bass is a knockout. This legendary album just got better - simply one of the best sounding albums I own on vinyl.
- This reissue of Burning Spear's classic "Marcus Garvey" is excellent and a great way to revisit the album after having not heard it in many years! Very clear as others have stated, it's the UK mix of the album that includes "Resting Place" which I believe was left off the supposedly darker and slower Jamaican mix. Completely essential reggae and a very high quality reissue!
- Apsolutely great sounding reissue.Nice deep and tight bass. For me one of 20 the best roots reggae albums ever
- Indeed, very good reissue! I know well this album through CD versions but it's like to listen it in the right way : it's very powerful and detailed in the same time, not compressed at the same high level like the CD i have. With this one, you hear distinctly each instruments, each voices, with a beautiful stereo soundstage. I'm impressed...
