- Edited 2 years ago'Viruses, like art, need a host. Preferably a popular one.' - PAN website.
Conceptually somewhere between error/mutate/disrupt don Yasunao Tone & 'Electronic Revolution'-era Burroughs, 'Blaster' sees Hoff programme lopsided 808 beats, infect them with the Blaster virus & (on side A) use the samples to create new compositions. But that's only half the story. In a deeply Burroughsian tactical flip, side B serves up the OG infected samples utilitarian-style to scratch-mixers for further viral mutation & dissemination: 'a timely exploration of the infectious qualities of sound, & how it too, as a carrier, makes its way through social networks, reduced to bits & programmed to infiltrate & replicate ... mobilizing its new hosts as a point of potential transmission' (PAN website, 2014). Whassat ... ? Yer sick of virus talk? Well, hey, doesn't that just make 'Blaster' even more timely now than it was on release? Quick endnote to all DJs: the viral gauntlet's been thrown down ... time to pick it up, homez.
