Oasis (2) – (What's The Story) Morning Glory?

I’ve found a lot of sibilance in this pressing. It’s good, but on higher end systems it may sound a bit strained.

My version si RKIDLP 73 A-6 with John P on the runnout, what is this release? Can't find it

Nothing wrong with my copy, sounds pretty good. I think some people need to clean their (new) vinyl before giving it a spin. Good installation might help as well!

2. Regarding the quality of the recording. I liked FleshMechanic's comment. My experience says that when listening to this wonderful album on vinyl, cd or cassette, at first it seems that this is compression, that everything is wrong and other disappointments. But now I'm listening to a vinyl rip from 2009 (24-96), full blown away, how great this wall of sound sounds! True, Miles Showell had a hand in it. It is also not clear whose press, which plant did the repress in 2009. But the sound is great! The vinyl must have been washed too.

It's a fussy little pressing this. I thought it was awful first time I spun it a couple of years ago on my old rig. Sounded a complete mess, fatiguing, very unpleasant. Made my ears hurt.

But I've just given it a spin tonight on my current setup and honestly, I'm astounded.

The difference is incredible.

Granted it needs a little work with tone controls to get there, or better yet an EQ. I'm using a four band EQ myself. Treble needs to come down a touch, hi-mid too. Low mid comes up a bit, then whack the bass right up and you're away.

Yes it's loud. Very loud. You probably won't need the volume knob anywhere near your normal setting.

There's no centre stage here as such, it's the Oasis wall of sound. Most of it just comes from the entire front wall. But there is a little more depth than I'm accustomed to with these songs, it's a little more refined, whilst still retaining that full on sound.

She's Electric in particular, I've never heard sound this good in 27 years. Cast No Shadow, one of my faves, sounds even more emotive than usual. Wonderwall, Hey Now, Some Might Say all stand out to me. These songs really benefit from such a huge increase in bass, whilst a reduction in treble tames them just enough that the music grabs you, as apposed to trying to scoop out your eardrums with shovel.

All in all, it can sound great but it's fussy. Clearly has a compatibly issue with some systems, as it sounded terrible through my old Denon amp and Heco floor standers, and I know many others haven't gotten along well with it either.

I can't remember which cartridge I was using at the time as I've got a bit of a habit of changing them around but my current cart is a vm740ml if that helps. I should imagine the vm95sh would be well suited to this too and that's available for a bargain price for a shibata tip.

Play around with the tone controls, maybe try a different stylus, one that tracks deeper into the groove such as a microline or shibata. Give it a chance and hopefully it'll reward you in kind.

I know some purists will scoff at the idea of using an EQ because "that's not how the artist intended it to sound" etc. Well firstly, I don't know what the 'artist' intended exactly but I'm fairly certain it wasn't bleeding ears and a brain hemorrhage. And secondly, I couldn't give a rat's ass what the artists intended tbh. The pressing sounded shit. Now it doesn't. I'd call that a result.

I'm really pleased I decided to give this another chance tonight. It's nowhere near as disappointing as I first thought.

Got mine with two Disc 2s instead of Discs 1 and 2. Sound quality is also not particularly great. Quality problems all the way around apparently.

Sound on This Vinyl is not the best, a bad digital rip it is. AWful pressing of a not that good 90's album in my opinion!!

Sound quality is questionable. The biggest drawback of the release is a plate diameter. I can't close the turntable cover because of the edges protruding about 2mm.
