Notes

Excerpt from the insert text:
For some time now, I have wanted to organize a compilation where all contributors are united by a common musical element. Initially, I was thinking this could be a musical phrase or a rhythmic pattern, but only recently thought about the potential of a sampled groove.

All of the artists on this PBS benefit were given the same loop to use as the inspiration for a new composition. There were no further parameters outlined -- feeling that such parameters would stifle diversity.

The starting sample was one I found whilst hunting for all pillagable material for the 'Bloody Tourist' album. A friend, David Yammouni, took me through a mountain of 20 year old 8 track reel tapes which featured recordings of very old Lebanese records. Whilst much of that afternoon is a blur, there was one section of music that struck me as having real potential for digestion, and this was used as a basis for Shinjuku Thief's 'Burden of Dreams'.

The end product here, is closer to the project's starting concept than to any notion of homogeneous musicality. Aside from being a diverse collection of artists, this tape also offers interesting insights on how different people approach the same idea.

Darrin Verhagen, 12/92

Comes in "video cassette style" case with insert. Limited to 40 copies.

This release was to benefit the specialist music radio station PBS 106.7FM in Melbourne, Australia, not the American namesake.
