Reviews
- Edited 7 years agoAn element of Nick Hakim's music that often gets overlooked is a psychedelic one. Sure, its soulful, and the influences of all that good old USA music he's clearly been inspired by is strongly present. But its an ethereal, other-worldly ambience that sets this apart from being lazily labelled 'Soul', or 'Funk'. It's a whole lot more. Blues, Gospel, Jazz, its all lurking behind here, however the sometimes overwhelming yet effortless emotion puts it somewhere else, out into the cosmos. I'm revisiting this single as his 'Green Twins' album just dropped & what an achievement it is. Great to reflect on these early singles & see the sound developing. This is a beautiful 7" & I think, without a doubt, soon to be a timeless classic... However you interpret it.
