- Edited 8 months agoThis album hit hard when I first heard it in 1995. No one could match Gene's speed, technique, and creativity on the drum set. I think Symbolic has held up well in the almost 29 years since. Still a Top 10 (maybe Top 5?) metal record for me.
Jim Morris captured great performances which really shine on this pressing. A surprisingly wide sound stage for a metal album. Bass guitar is audible even in the more phrenetic sections! The white vinyl makes it difficult to find the start of each track, but really.. Who needs to skip tracks on Symbolic?
I am surprised how pricey this has become. This was a $20 record all day on Amazon when I picked it up. - Edited 8 months agoWow, i'm really lucky to have snagged this for AU$75 in mid-2022 from Underground Records
It felt a bit expensive at the time, but I justified it cause most discogs listings were around the AU$100 range.
Look at these prices now!! At least i'm listening to mine.. - the most warped record i own. which is unfortunate since the quality itself sounds phenomenal. a classic metal album and their best release, imo.
- Way too classic of an album for a reissue to fetch this price. C’mon Roadrunner, give the fans a repress.
- This a great sounding record, but there are some loud pops during the acoustic outro to Perennial Quest. Anyone else have the same problem?
- My version sounds and looks great. The LP is completely white, no color contamination, and it sounds great, no pops or clicks.
- Edited one year agoMy copy has a couple of audible pops in Symbolic (A1), but still manages to sound great overall. Although I can only praise the mastering of the album, I did detect distortion while listening to Sacred Serenity and 1000 Eyes (A4 and A5). This is what pisses me off, tbh.
- Just got this for Christmas! I must say it sounds really great! Theres some minor noise in between tracks but nothing too bad! And its really amazing how loud this is for being 51 minutes long and only having 1 Lp! Its also impressive that their is no audible distortion that I could pick up on at least! Really good album, but I mean, if you wanna buy this, you probably already know how good this is. This is the ultimate viable option if you wanna own this gem but don’t wanna pay crazy money for a OG copy that is likely in mediocre condition.
