STEVE RODEN WAS "In Be Tween Noise." A timeless sound art project composing music without synthesizers or artificial sound generators. Roden is a "natural" in every sense of the word. Making varied homemade instruments (his gadget list is unprecedented) out of unique daily/worldly objects and surroundings; as well as introducing unique ones such as a glass bead in a japanese prayer bowl. The haunting "Meditation on the Memory of a Theme by Purcel" uses lap steel guitar, sampled grandfather's violin and austrian television voice to stunning effect. In a song entitled "etaropave," Roden uses a sampled music box (from a stuffed animal that was in his crib as a child - the first notes of music he ever heard) with a field recording of a fish seller in Kobe, Japan as an underpinning. Roden's textures are therapeutically fetching but most of all, unpretentiously original concept pieces of music.
