Reviews
- Got it on release.
The music is great, the copy is unlistenable. if you talk about clicks and pops somewhere on records here you really have to talk about some music here and where between the clicks and pops. It's really a shame because of the music. - One of my favorite albums of the last decade but my copy, unfortunately, plays with quite a bit of surface noise. Will order a new copy after reading the positive reviews here.
- Edited 10 months agoI got my hands on a recent press and from first spin it has no crackles, pops or any unwanted noise whatsoever. it still has a lo-fi quality to it, but it feels intentional and isn't unpleasant in any way. leaving this as a heads up to anyone who may want this masterpiece on vinyl but reads the reviews and feels unmotivated!
- If rating this on the pressing, it be one star. Some of the nosiest new records I've come across are Asthmatic Kitty Records. And sadly, same with this release. Even after a good wet cleaning, there's crackle and even some pops. (Played with a VM540ML.)
The content though--the songs, performance, the mix and mastering--is so beautiful. - One of the most beautiful record ever released and a masterpiece, unfortunately plagued by a very low-fi mastering and a disastrous vinyl release that sounds flat and digital. Let's hope of a reissue in the future.
- I will say, after about 3 separate cycles with my spin clean, the album distortion and crackles went down considerably. That's still pretty ridiculous for a brand new vinyl.
- Edited 2 years agoSold my old copy a while back due to the horrible noise on what is otherwise a masterpiece of a folk record, but quite happy to hear around here that the newer pressings are much better. Might pick up a newer copy in that case.
- I think others have said this but I will add my voice - mine appears to be a recent repress, and it sounds perfect. No pops, no sibilance, no distortion - it's so gentle and nice. :)
