Reviews
- For 1991 Let Your Mind Be Free is a fairly quick rolling stab of hardcore rawness, heavier & crazier that most tracks around the same time and for that matter for a fair while afterwards as well.
- Has anybody ever seen a white label/test press of this release? It's apparently one of the few records on Sub Base that didn't have a promo release, but there must have been some test presses before the full run was pressed?
- Gotta love 'Further Out', but to be honest, for me it's all about 'Let Your Mind Be Free' in this slab of vinyl.
Starting off with two brilliant vocal samples. The first which encapsulates not only the percussive and musical structures of early breakbeat tracks but also the dub influences ('And to start you off. With a little bit of bass, and a little bit of drums. To fill your soul'). The second just highlights the manic-ness of hardcore rave ('What's wrong with you? You're crazy...!') and sets you up nicely for the thundering breakbeat assault which comes next. The track is then topped off with some mad 'morse code' riff stabs and Jungle Brothers' 'Let your mind be free. Free like your body' vox. This is one of those high velocity tunes that once it gets going, it just doesn't let up. The genius that is Danny Breaks.
