Reviews
- This album is so beautiful and astonishing, and so actual and contemporary even 35 years after it’s release, that it still gives me the creeps anytime I listen to it (and I was listening to it for around 20 years right know!). It is also the only Diamanda’s Galas that makes even want to dance with “You must be certain of the devil” and “double-barrier prayer”. In addiction , it is also the most “affordable”, from a musical point of view, of her albums(together with the Sporting life), so it’s the first that I suggest to profanes, who never listened to her before, to be listened to in order the enter Diamanda’s world(it is much more difficult to introduce a profane to start with “the Litanies of Satan”). Five star is even not enough! If it would be a sixth premium star, I were going to put it to her and this Masterpiece!
- Scary record, really dark, a great piece of art. Gives you chills down your spine, she seems to sing and scream her inside out, putting everything into the songs. I once saw her perform live - and I was scared.
- Galas last piece of the three part "Masque Of The Red Death" trilogy! This is a whole dimension onto itself! To call this dark would be doing it a silly disservice - it's just a recording of truth. If you've been following Diamanda's trilogy so far you'll be surprised to find that this LP is more song-oriented without releasing the unsettling bareness of her voice and words. This album also contains a song that had a video banned from Much Music and MTV! Now that's cool.
