This original 2001 pressing rips. Cut super hot, guitars fuzzy as hell and everything right in your face. Really well done, but very rough around the edges as expected.- Can anyone with a first press confirm that the band’s website is the first thing listed under the barcode on the back cover?
My copy reads: “WWW.THESTROKES.COM | The RCA Record label is a unit…” but is otherwise identical in every way.
I want to say I bought my copy during their first tour right after the album came out but honestly can’t remember…
SUCH a great album I think the "Haves" are severely bloated because they unfortunately made the reissue matrix number so similar. This is the very first press be cautious before adding your copy to this version
This was the first vinyl I ever bought alongside Room on Fire at the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame during a trip in 2010. Never had a setup until 2020, had no idea what I was sitting on. This sounds great and I spin it once or twice a month. Such a special one.
My copy matches this listing exactly (no Ⓤ or ☆ in runout) except the labels have fine text beneath the Side A and Side B, which match the photos of this pressing: https://www.discogs.com/release/14772559-The-Strokes-Is-This-It
How do I know if mine is really this version? Mine was added to my collection over 6 years ago when I first started really using discogs to keep track of my collection. I probably had it many more years than that.
I have a copy of this album which matches with the US cover, barcode and track list. However, as other users I doubt this is the original pressing. The record is a heavy version 150-180 grams I guess, and the front cover has a sticker with black background and "The Strokes" in white letters and "Is This It" in red.- Edited 5 years agoThis entry should only be for the rare 2001 version with "New York City Cops" and the US cover. Per an interview in 2001/2002 with Julian Casablancas (I read it back then and wish I could find it now), about 5,000 copies were pressed before 9/11 with the song "New York City Cops."
After 9/11, "New York City Cops" was replaced with "When It Started" on the US CD version. They didn't press more US vinyl copies for several years (there were just the original ~5,000 floating around), but when they did start re-pressing vinyl copies years later, they kept "New York City Cops" and used the same catalog number/bar code as the 2001 vinyl version.
If you found a new record at a store recently for ~$20 with the US cover and "New York City Cops" (even with the same catalog number), it is not this original 2001 pressing and should be listed separately.
If someone out there has vinyl copies of the original and later pressings, there are probably subtle runout variations that could differentiate the pressings.
