Reviews
- There's something wrong with the titling and credits.
– Track #1 is The Honeymoons 'The Formula of Science'. I know this because I have seen Tenko and Kamura live performing as The Honeymoons and their sound is unmistakable. Also, Tenko sat on my couch watching her entire set at CBGB's that I recorded.
– Track #2 is Mizutama Shobodan's 'The Moon Which Lies (La luna que miente)'. I know this because I have the album 'Red Petals Full In The Sky'.
– Track #3 is After Dinner's The Room of Hair Mobile'. I know this because I have the albums 'Live Edition', 'Festival MIMI '87'.
– I'm also thinking the track ID'd as The Moon Which Lies is actually Saboten's 'Low Chair'. Unfortunately I no longer own Welcome To Dreamland and I can't verify this track.
My guess is that the A & B sides have been inverted. - A compilation of Japanese avant-garde music made by a french label for the US market... what a weird release.
The 80's were such awesome decade for music... it's an endless pit of discoveries! - It's a bizarre album for sure, and a damn interesting one: experimental new wave and rock music coming out of Japan in the 1980s. It appears to be a compilation but it's actually a bunch of different bands recording over several sessions. There are some very enjoyable tracks here (I think my favourite is "Festival Song" that ends the album). One too many tracks are just plain quirky and out there for my tastes. Fun stuff for sure, but not exactly an album I want to listen to all the time. When I bought this album years ago I recall thinking it was pretty brilliant. These days it has a lot of "experiment for experimentation's sake" sorta sounding stuff. Which is okay. But not very enduring.
