Reviews
- A really great album. I don’t care about the circumstances around the release, it’s still great. Good pressing as well.
- I love this record. Even though Columbia released it as a spite record, it really swings and my copy sounds awesome!
The covers are freaking amazing! - I adore this record. It's totally baffling to me that people can hate it - especially the hard-core Dylan fans who are otherwise fans of his early-70s New Morning-era sound. To be sure - this is no Highway 61. But these are interesting interpretations of several really great tunes. And I don't mean interesting in a backhanded complimentary way, it really is neat to hear how Dylan takes these songs. I also think his performances are very enjoyable. They're raw, but still the work of true professionals. It's like listening to a jam session of Dylan and his band. In many ways, it reminds me of McCartney's early solo/Wings stuff. It's laid back in a way that makes for a supremely enjoyable and relaxing listen.
Anyways, I think this pressing sounds totally fine. Nobody has ever loved this record enough to wear out their copy (lol), so it's easy to get a great sounding one for cheap. - while many share a negative opinion about this record, I’m part of the rare opposite. I think this album fits well in anyone’s growing Dylan collection, featuring mostly covers that deserve the light of day. “Ballad of Ira Hayes” & “Can’t Help Falling in Love” have a feel of him just having fun performing songs he enjoys. Obviously it’s not one of his best albums, but it deserves another listen from those who wrote it off.
