This vinyl is one of the best I have. The sound is absolutely fantastic. As for the music, unbelievable!! What a record.

UK 1st issue costs a fortune but it totally worth it. So clear, wide, precise and punchy. Vocals are amazing. Freshness of the tape combined with wonderful cut from legendary Porky. I totally agree with the guys below that it is a time capsule. It will never be redone as good as this issue is, so if you love this album - a must have version. Simply amazing, both music and this pressing.
It needs to be a strong VG+ (but honest VG+) or NM, otherwise it doesn’t make sense to buy it.

quite simply, this UK Island 1st pressing of "Red" is a capsule of perfection

I have four pressings of this. The US original King Crimson - Red, the 2d Japanese pressing King Crimson - Red, the Half-Speed Master from EG King Crimson - Red, and the 2013 remaster King Crimson - Red. The best of these is the HSM, and it's not all that close. The US original does not sound bad, but it's nowhere close. The Japanese pressing is also very good, but it lacks some of the detail of the HSM. The 2013 remaster also sounds very good, but it is a bit dark by comparison, a flaw I find in many late remasters (probably due to tape degradation).

          Obviously, a fantastic album.

Does anyone know about the different inner sleeves? I've seen more than one copy (UK 1974) with a white inner sleeve that says "Made in Great Britain".

For new users, this is my personal advice for the digital version: go for the first edition without barcode, the Jem version. It's the first original mastering, the only one that really show the pathos of this title. The second remaster (Definitive Edition,1989) is very good, but was a bit equalized. Don't buy the 30th Anniversary and don't buy, don't listen, the Wilson remix...it's the worst of all, really. He said some years ago that the original mixing of Red was yet perfect and after....he touched it. It's a bit difficult in these days to find the first pressing in cd, but worth it.

Can't get much better than this, Peckham mastered Crimson. Has so much more presence and clarity than my 1st US press had. The one to get if you love this album.

Starless - what can you say about one of the greatest melodies for guitar (or violin, or for any instrument for that matter) of all time - a melody of melancholy and hope all rolled into one. A timeless melody encompassing all human experience. One of the best songs ever written. That's about it.

Arguably one of the greatest Prog albums of all time. Although hard to eclipse the influence that their first LP had on the genre, I would say this LP is the pinnacle of power and grace for Krimso. Starless is one of my 5 favorite pieces of music, alongside Supper's Ready, Abbey Road suite from side 2, Arriving Somewhere (But Not Here), and Shine On You Crazy Diamond. This was the album Kurt Cobaine had in his disc player when he ended his life, I like to imagine that Starless was the track he went out on. Morbid, but oddly fitting.

"Starless" pretty much sums up what King Crimson was all about back then - a true gem.
