Listening to FJERNLYS is like eating honey in the sun.

The sound of Fjernlys is somehow characteristic to Loki Foundation, at times deeply ominous and pervading with an aura of cosmic solemnity, but differentiated from the other artists in their catalogue from something that is quite difficult to describe, perhaps so subtle that one needs to really introspect into the music in order to decipher it.

I would say first thing that strikes is the voices employed, working as godly cacophonies amidst the drone layers and spatious cadence of the music, there is more melody noticiable as well, at times almost letting perceive an structure of a "song" in between the vibrant ambience. In general the music transmits a feeling of gravity that encompasses mysterious tones and triggers enigma in through the delivery. As usual within the label style, Fjernlys deals with profound navigations into what we could call cosmic questions and mystic excursions into the "dark side" of universe, but while a band like Inade surprises not only with the intriguing sounds but "ungodly" combustion of the music Fjernlys diverges with a more humane and perhaps limited resource of aural construction.

Although the first disk is interesting and inspiring, the second one is way better in the way of the more sophisticated and deep, the first three tracks are mindblowing and propels the listener into true sequences of mystic ecstasy, while "Trunkene flut" lands in some sort of darkened landscape of melancholic uproar and tremors for the soul. First Law completes the cycle with a very ritualistic approach that secures the strength for a grandiose finale, Wahmann as usual is the master, and the epicenter for all what is good in the German label.

So the critic is positive but divided, the first disk is interesting, deep ambient with some obscure tonalities and mysterious vocals that keep you on a nebulous universe structured in almost "song-like" forms with layers and organic synths complementing the wholeness, while the second disk shows a decidedly more assented work of ritualistic ambient in accordance with the extremely enigmatic profile of this label.
