Frontera, the downtempo offshoot of Reverso 68, only released one self-titled album, and it’s appearance on famed chill-out label Music for Dreams lets you know what it’s all about. The hints of Reverso 68’s nu-disco still come through though, as the spacey dub of “Nature” makes clear. “Rouge” has a moody funk to it that adds a nice touch, good enough to re-emerge at the end of the album in a reprise. Sophie Barker’s filtered vocals on “Everything Changes” contribute a dreamy touch (she reappears on the dub-inflected “A Baia”). Some Latin touches find their way onto “Charity,” while “Ku Number One” sticks close to the electro before “Walking in the Rain” takes it to the groove. “Let Yourself Go” continues that vein until “How to Get Ahead…” reminds us that the answer is ‘slowly.’ A frontier worth exploring!
