These ten tracks were originally issued in 1976 on two separate albums titled "Love Affair With A Clarinet" (Volume 1 and Volume 2) on the Famous Solos label. Tracks A1-5 were on side A of Volume 1, while tracks B1-5 were on side A of Volume 2. The B sides of both original albums featured only the solo guitar accompaniment, which allowed clarinet students to play along.
This reissue uses the A side metalwork from the two original releases, which are dated 6-76.The copyright on the jacket of the reissue is 1977, while the label shows a copyright date of 1978.

These ten Etudes were originally commissioned by Keith Perkins as an educational project for jazz clarinet students.
Buddy DeFranco uses a Yamaha YCL 61 Clarinet exclusively.

- With only an electrical guitar accompanying him, you can really hear Defranco's mastery of the clarinet, his warm sound, and his soulful phrasing. This album is a gem.
