Reviews
- I slept on this album when it came out, but in a couple days of repeat listening it's become my favorite of The Orb's post-2000s work. On a superficial, 30-second level, it's hard to see the Orb-ness of it; it's a super-subdued, dubby house palette that owes much more to Kompakt and Basic Channel than the polyrhythmic rave rainbows of Orblivion. But listening to the full tracks, the variety of change-ups and pacing of new layers of samples clearly reflects their oldschool hardcore and psychadelic origins, and makes for the most pleasingly unpredictable and addicting listen since Orbus Terrarum - despite being anchored in a 4/4 pulse and a much calmer attitude. Maybe, finally, this is the "ambient house" they always talked of? While the pacing and rhythms are similar to Okie Dokie, it's a darker, more earth-bound, and jazzy listen, but one which really feels like it's hit its stride in craft and expression via Paterson and Fehlmann's collaboration. It's a shame that they've gone separate ways since!
- Must say, this sounds fantastic while chilling at the coast on a Sunday with a cold beer.
Salute! [/raise glass] - Great album, but the vinyl is very bad pressed. There is serious phase problem on side 2, 3 & 4. Only side 1 plays properly. Isn't this something that you check during the mastering and before you start to press. It's a shame because the album is really good.
- Could at least one of those two gentlemen tell, why this is only fifty-one minutes? That's the way to go on, Sirs!
- Does anyone received a download code with the ltd release? The CD contains only the first four tracks. On the orb website they say the J'Dilla tribute track is vinyl only but the remainig two tracks are supposed to be "deluxe vinyl and deluxe download only" and they are not the ones featured in the japanese onyl iTunes version.
