Sometimes you're in for a real surprise. The year is 1982, an important year. The Disco craze is over and new styles, like Synth-pop, Italo-Disco, Electro, Electric Boogie and Electrophonic Funk also known as Boogie, are emerging. Which new direction to take? Or should we stick to our old style? The main hit on this album is "It Started With A Kiss", their comfy old style. A hit, but really nothing special. "Girl Crazy", also a hit, sounds a bit different, Synthy disco, still resembling the old Hot Chocolate. "Chances", their next single, is a bit more mid-tempo, nothing special, just a nice Pop song. "Are You Getting Enough Happiness" has still the same characteristic vocals, but the music is going in a different direction, especially at the end of the song slightly funky. Would they be able to go into the right direction? For me that's Boogie or Electrophonic Funk. Other groups taking the right path are Crown Heights Affair, The Chi-Lites, Tavares and The Bar-Kays. They made a few awesome albums in the early eighties, in many cases better than their previous work. "No Tears" is slightly different, a good and funky disco song. "You'll Never Be So Wrong" has, like in many songs of this album, a funky bass, but is nothing more than a nice Synth-pop song. "One Night's Not Enough" is more up-tempo, almost resembling funky Hi-NRG. Still not the right direction. Just 2 songs left. Emotion Explosion, yes, that's the way to go. Smooth and funky. Great rhythms, consisting of a pushing bass line and good handclaps. The synthesizer in this song is really nice and wait until you hear the awesome synthesizer break. This is a surprise. They are able to play good and smooth funk. Sometimes you have an album with 3-ish and 4-ish songs but with one song you would like to give a 10. The title song, called Mystery, is the killer boogie track. OMG, what a 10 track! Especially for that song a straight 5 for the whole album. The song is not yet on youtube, which is the real mystery!
