- Edited one year agoAlright, holy shit, this EP is bloody amazing actually.
This originally came on my radar thanks to MCDE's house mix in boiler room - London 2013... Doctor's Housecall.. which I think many people also have taken this way here...
Doctor's Housecall w/ it's dynamic wonky break is great but many of it's qualities also shine through to the other tracks... This older type of house really rewards longer listening.. all the elements build up so dynamically and where you don't expect them to happen. (Everything's euphoric phone booth bleeps and mesmerizing vocal chops for example) ..
Your Mind Is So Crazy?? No brainer , absolute feel good slammer with a great vocal hook
Nite Dance ... Bountiful Bass Type with cool synth stabs.. very euphoric
Dance Forever does this huge slowdown to which it almosts slows down to a crawl to which it speeds up again..
S.A.D. Tribal Mix - wtf, this one is fucking crazyy.. offstep 124 Bpm beat with this very eerie/mysterious bell sample in the back.. Very, VERY deep - this would fit right in a Omar S FYA Mix or a Theo Parrish one rather - Very oldschool but just so odd and out there... Definitely a stand out track for one it would throw me completely off If I would hear it banging in a very dark club with a fat bass system...
the user by "Curtis Mayfield" is spot on with hes comment on this release (https://www.discogs.com/release/124965-Four-On-The-Floor-Productions-Presents-Black-Traxx-Five-The-Soul-Package) in 2010 ;
"This is an under-rated volume of Black Traxx imo. Initially they just sound like basic beat tracks but on repeated listening and some patience I've realized there is some quiet excellence burbling beneath these tracks.
As Meltdown points out above, the organ and key playing is tight and says a lot with a little.
"The Party" is great but there are a few other burners on here as well.
Hypnotic, simple, and well made house music."
So to get the point across - very wide array of tracks/compositions . Also known as a good DJ tool :)
And to top it all off.. dedicated to Ron Hardy.. needs no introduction.. and it sure is one hell of a great dedication of what many consider to be one of the GOATS of DJing... "Nobody did it like Ron Hardy" I've seen that written on various comments sections on hes edits and in documentaries/interviews many times ..
TL;DR GOOD RECORD IS GOOD!! - "Word up! Dude!" obvious sample is "doctor's housecall" is sampling First Choice - Dr Love! (1977) https://www.discogs.com/First-Choice-Doctor-Love/master/65970
- This record is great but so are the other 5 Black Traxx records, and they are all wayyy cheaper. Just because a famous DJ plays something doesn't make it intrinsically special. There's plenty of other worthy reworks of Dr. Love, Your Love by Terrence Parker for instance, that go equally hard or harder and don't command celebrity DJ money. Go with some of the other records from this series and shape your own voice behind the decks
