Reviews
- Couple of things about this record. I was the mastering engineer at Columbia in San Francisco. While it was mastered directly from 16 to lathe the copies I made while cutting are, in effect, master tapes because they are first generation. Also, it would be difficult to make new mixes from the 16 tracks because David Briggs used the console EQ, our limiters and, most importantly, our echo chambers.
- Edited one year agoThis is a beauty of live record. I really love it in the way it is. I am audiophile and colecting audiophile records and this is not audiophile record, but it is really beauty.
- It's sloppy. It's ragged. It's hilarious that this is what he came out with after "Harvest". And it totally predicts "On The Beach". It's nobody's favourite Neil Young live album (especially by him! So much so that he refused to have it released until only a few years ago as part of a larger package.) But it's got a desperate charm to it that his wholly involving. As such, it's not a bad recording at all.
- I bought a copy recently, a first pressing no Stereo label. The record came with a large full color poster maybe 4ft by 21/2 ft , showing Young singing into mic with the flower attached to the stand, a similar image is featured on the inner sleeve of Tuscaloosa .The previous owner said it came with the record, anyone else come across this ?
- Neil can't remaster this release because it was CompuMixed in real time as the show was happening. No multitrack masters exist. Neil hates the original mix which is "locked in" thus no CD reissue.
- The sad part is there are a lot of good songs on that LP. Radio stations will play 'Don't Be Denied', but there's 'Journey Thru The Past', 'Love In Mind' & another that I can't recall.
I have a version from 'Roaring Mouse' label I bought in 2003 that has both 'Time Fades Away' & 'On the Beach' on 1 CD-R (before the latter was re-issued). They used the original LP covers. One on front, other on the back. When listening to it you can hear that the sound is from an LP. No skips & an enjoyable listening experience. - Never Officially released on CD-cause Neil wants it that way! When describing his thoughts about releasing the LP at the time, he claims he wanted to use the shittiest material available for the sleeve so it would decompose quickly..Gotta love Neil Young.
