Show All 24 Reviews- My copy is flat and sound is clear and dynamic. I heard little nuances on this LP that I didn’t hear before while listen on CD or MP3. Such an excellent and interesting album from a creative artist.
- i must've gotten really lucky with my copy. no warps or distortions, very minimal surface noise and popping in between tracks, but doesn't bother me at all. clean and sounds great, really happy with this (:
- Picked this up at a LRS on a trip, sounds really good and clear to my ears, no real distortion or surface noise to speak of. If you can find one of these recent represses I'd say go for it, it was out of print for a little bit and hard to find under $40 so hopefully this means it'll be more accessible for the near future.
- It's good, has clear audio, no noticeable surface noise, really good dynamic range (it seems like it to my naked ear). Pretty happy with my purchase.
- Got off Amazon for $25CAD, pretty cheap so I was skeptical. To my fortune, my pressings sound great and are dead quiet in terms of surface noise. Both are slightly off center and disk two has an ever so slight warp, but not bad enough to effect the sound.
Overall the records do sound really great, it's unfortunate that there's so many QC issues with other reviews.
If you're looking to get this record, I'd recommend going with a higher rated pressing, but if yours is fine, $25CAD is a good bargain. - This is a disappointment. Both records warped beyond belief. Static in the vocal track. Sounds compressed overall to me.
- Edited 2 years agoFirst, the good news: both discs from my copy lay perfectly flat on the turntable and play dead silent with no surface noise whatsoever. As warping and surface noise seem to be a common problem with this pressing, I guess I got lucky in that regard.
Now, the not-so-good news. As this album was recorded digital, there are some audio flaws exposed in the medium. Disc one has a few nasty moments, notably noise distortion to the top end on side one, giving it a rather “harsher” sound. It’s cut quieter to allow a little more dynamic range, but this is minimal and not revealing.
Disc two, on the other hand, is nearly fault-free...at least as much as the vinyl will allow. What I mean by that is the music plays cleanly without surface noise, but again, that “harsh” sound from the snare and swirly synthesizers make it a little hard to listen to. Side three is the best-sounding to my ears, with side four coming in second place.
TL;DR: “Great Album, Doesn’t Sound Good On Vinyl.” Sorry, not sorry.
Look for BrickwallHater’s redux for the best-sounding version of this album. - Side A tracks 2-3 Nangs and Moments have considerable static white noise on my copy. All other tracks are clean. Discs looked fantastic but I notice the grooves look darker and stand out more on the tracks I'm referring to. Anyone else have this problem? I'd like to exchange for another copy and hope its better because its hard to have a defect copy of one of my favorite albums. I picked this up from my favorite local shop. Does anyone have of a great pressing of this release or recommend a better reissue? Id like to believe that the next copy will sound better.
