This album took me and my friends by storm when we first heard it way back in 1978. Can't remember where we first heard it, John Peel probably. Everyone I knew bought a copy and whenever I went round to someone's house this was the album they always put on, side one being particularly strong. Each of the five tracks has a different sound.... down to the differing producers, studios and engineers employed. The choice of riddims is very strong with classic tunes like Man Next Door and Ali Baba reworked in heavyweight style.
There was something about this record that appealed to everybody at the time. It must have sold tens of thousands in the UK.

Side two possibly a notch down but still a very strong set.

I also have a CD version. Normally I much prefer vinyl ... but in this instance the bass seems a lot louder and heavier on the CD. Plus - you get four extra tracks - and they are all good too.

All in all the highwater mark of 70s roots dubwize toasting, no doubt about it.
