There is a unidentified and medically not demonstrable virus that many record collectors are infected with. A virus that makes people get mad about music and records crafted in Italy between the late 60s till the early 80s. A virus that makes people pay hundreds and even thousands of dollars for music that does not have an explicit name or covers a specific genre, but is still clearly recognizable and absolutely distinctive. Genres of these [often rare] records range from folk, pop, jazz, rock and even electronic, with all it’s countless sub-genres and variations.
Often these records are connected with the term library music. There is no record that can be recognized as a key cornerstone or represents the so called Italian music perfectly but if I should pick an example to present this certain music to a newcomer, I would probably pick The Rhythm Of Life by the obscure Oscar Lindok’s Orchestra.
With this piece, you get basically everything that the virus is craving for and if you consider yourself one of those infected individuals, you will be fully entertained. You really get the full groovy blast with the b-movie and lounge flavour, but words trying to describe this record fail anyway. Even the characteristic wordless scat is present and sounds like the work of the famous Edda dell'Orso. And it most probably is...
One mentionable evidence of the power of this record, is the [partly] uncredited line up of Italian musicians and composers such as Alessandro Alessandroni, Mario Molino, Stefano Torossi, Sandro Brugnolini and Gianni Dell'Orso to name a few. Some of them are considered major key figures for this type of sound and on this one little record, you can hear their combined mastery. It is truly very special and should be reissued by a professional label for a wider audience.
A last unskilled comment of mine is, that I always bring this in connection with the Feelings record, by looking at the cover. I mean just look at it! It’s two undressed ladies, that look in the same direction, with a unrecognizable face. Just put the covers side by side and you will understand…
