Notes

Gatefold sleeve with printed inner sleeves (round corners).

Some copies came with a sticker with European cat# 302 419-977 on upper right corner of back cover (UK version imported to mainland Europe?)

From sleeve notes: IQ number one becomes no.four in Zang Tuum Tumb's fishy Action Series. "Ain't that peculiar."

Record two's inner sleeve includes a mail order form for FGTH accessories, such as the "Sophisticated Virginia Woolf vest for the luxury of life" and the "Jean Genet boxer shorts", modelled by Paul Rutherford of the group Frankie Goes To Hollywood and Claudia Bruecken [sic] of the group Propaganda ...

This is a fantastic FGTH album and this 1984 edition sounds fresh and crisp. Recording and production are god too. The separation between left and righ chanel is very lively. This is probably a digital recording and mastering, but it sounds good to me.

My copy comes with two stickers in back right upper corner.
First was 46 485/9 and is partially hidden under 302 419-977

They were the future sound of pop music for about five minutes. But it’s still a fun album

Is there any available original CD of this album that isn't remastered and contains the original LP running order, rather than the CD running order?

Got the 2010 Music On Vinyl remaster. The sound is rich and gorgeous and if you like this album I can't see you being disappointed.

Having said that, I've never heard the full album before listening to it all today, and while the 4 singles are good songs (except I don't think much of the edit of Two Tribes on the album.. the strongest track on the album having a short treatment was a fail for me when the Two Tribes extended versions are so much better as full pieces), everything else on this album is a strange mess.... Everything on sides 3 and 4 (except The Power Of Love) are totally forgettable.

Side 3 has a very weird tracklist with covers of "Ferry Across The Mercy" followed by Bruce Springsteen's "Born To Run?" (huh??) followed by "Do You Know The Way To San Jose" (wtf?) and all the other tracks on sides 3 and 4.... I just didn't "get it". Maybe you just had to "be there" (in Liverpool in the 80s) to understand this album but for me without 'being there' this album is just inconsistent and incoherent. I just don't 'get it'. I should've just bought the 12" singles for the 4 singles as nothing else on this album is worth listening to twice.

I'm very surprised to realise now I'm not that much of a fan of FGTH after all. Oh well.

I have the US pressing from the 80s. It has so much surface noise and skips. The music is good but the vinyl they pressed it on is so thin and flimsy almost like a flexi disc it didn't stand the test of time.

Perhaps this is covered elsewhere, but I can't seem to figure out which single-disc version I have. I am quite sure it's the "hybrid" 1985 European release (Made in France by PDO and a STEMRA box on the CD label). It has an Island catalog # 824052-2 both on the CD and the booklet/tray insert, but the tracks on the disc inside do not match the listing on the tray insert. The tracks on the CD line up with what I'm gathering from some previous reviews/comments the original CD-exclusive mix (610-195) but that catalog # is not printed anywhere on my copy. It contains the extended version of "Two Tribes" and includes "Happy Hi" instead of "San Jose." When I insert it into iTunes, the listings on the CD come up in Gracenote, not what's on the insert back cover. I'm just trying to figure out how to catalog it - LOL!!!

One of the most essential 80s albums. Love everything about this album, from the strong cover design through to all the great tracks.

All the hits, relax, two tribes, power of love even has a couple of great covers, war and born to run. Best of all is the hedonistic brilliance of the title track.
