i never really understood why this came out. the pure of joy of moodymann's track are how they build and build in layers. this is just snippets put together. it almost seems like a promo that a record company is putting out. if this was my first introduction to moodymann i would be disappointed. i am seldom disappointed in him
Deep is deep, music is music and Moodymann is unique. This Collection mixes up almost every 12" and album Vinyl that was released by Kenny Dixon Jr. on his own imprints. He did the job himself and this makes it so special. I can't think of any mix that sounds like this. It helps if you know a lot of his stuff, but still : This is something extra ordinary. Never heard of another artist trying to make a mix out of 30 of his own 12"es. Moodymann succeeds and fails at the same time. You get an impression of his sound and even details from stuff, you might not heard before or forgot. But of course those small snippets are not enough to give the listener a taste of how great some of these trax are played out from start to finish. He succeeds best with the midle part i would say = Givin U Something, People, Back at Bakers, Misled, Sunshine, Don't U Want My Love, I Need U So Much, JAN , Sweet Lovin , Joy II . I'm Doin Fine and Over U are deep emotional deep house gems, that fit together just fine. Superb work by one of Detroit's best Deep House Producers and DeeJay.
