Reviews
- "Evil" with its emotionally-detached spoken lyrics and pounding kick drum is exquisite melancholic bedroom techno in the vein of The Black Dog's "Virtual". Deserves to be more widely known but it's such a odd record that it may be destined to remain homeless.
- In 1992 I travelled through Europe, from Scotland to Bosnia, as part of a charity convoy carrying aid to the besieged city of Sarajevo. I had bought some records just before I left and had quickly recorded them onto tape so I could listen to them on my Walkman while I was away. One of these was ‘Evil’. Listening to this as I travelled through the war torn former Yugoslavia was a profound experience. Wladimir’s lyrics, as well as Stefan Robbers’ music, seemed a perfect match for where I was in that moment. Amongst the hedonistic and hopeful atmosphere that characterised most of the music and experiences of that time this is a profound and deep contribution that will always speak to me.
- Edited 6 years agoI wonder if the graffiti artist who did all the artwork and text for Suburban Records (Darkside Jungle n Hardcore UK label) become influenced by the artwork on this 12"... Very similar!...
Evil is a top track! Mezmerising!!! Hard breakbeat kick drum and that swirling sound consumes any room ;) - Edited 16 years agoThis is one of my all time top-10 techno records ever. It's totally amazing that it was released in 1991, and even more amazing is the fact it has vocals with meaning and message! Especially "Evil" is a masterpiece, it's almost industrial sound with a very sinister tone. When this record came out, George Bush Sr. was the president, and U.S. had been in war with Iraq. Today the U.S. "keeps order" in Iraq and George Bush Jr. is the man, and this record sounds as fresh and actual as ever. "Going south" is a shivering mixture of Detroit techno, old school euro/italo bassline sound and the crazy poetry of Wladimir, simply awesome!
