It seems that I got lucky because my copy doesn't have any defects on Borrowed Tune, which I'm very glad of, especially since it's my favourite on the album. The quality of the packaging is a little disappointing - it's flimsy and the texture makes the artwork look faded. Either way I'm just glad that mine sounds fine.
Edited 3 days agoI got lucky with no pressing issues. The packaging is a real problem. This album’s packaging and inserts are very important to this album.
An OG or older copy has the textured album jacket. And a much better quality insert and booklet. The black steamboat label is obviously essential. Very disappointed in the packaging here because for this album it’s essential and also just very easy to get right. A very flimsy and cheap jacket. Should’ve been a hard stock like they did with the harvest reissue.
Now when compared audio wise to my NM OG, I find this to be an absolutely excellent repressing of this album in general.- I just got a copy and has the borrowed tune buzz/ beep noise part the way through , disappointing .
- Just received my copy from Amazon on 9/24/23 and it does not have the non-fill defect that other copies have. I only check the one song, Borrowed Tune. Hopefully the rest of the album sounds fine.
- Edited one year agoAs others have said below, there is a terrible glitch on 'Borrowed Time'. Completely ruins this pressing which is otherwise fine. Would avoid this pressing due to this issue.
Edited one year agoTo echo what a few others have written, the pressing of this album is messed up. I have the same issue with non-fills, on the same track, “Borrowed Tune.” Very disappointing. The rest of the album sounds great.
One person says this 2015 version was reissued in August of 2022. I just bought a copy and like a few others, it has some loud non-fills on Borrowed Tune. Since no complaints of this problem on the original 2015 release as indicated by the reviewers, I will guess it's just the re-issue of this 2015 version that has this problem. Correct me if I'm wrong.
I am a BIG fan of what neil is doing with these reissues, and have almost all of them, which almost always best the originals comfortably. However this one is a disaster. I have bought two copies and BOTH had squelching noises in 'borrowed tune', definitely the pressing/plate at fault here. Really disappointed with it, this is the one of the Neil Young Archives Official Release Series I would pass on. Be advised....

P.S. "Tonight's the Night" part II is one of the most haunting songs in the history of rock.
Wonderful remastering but disappointing pressing: loud tics and full of none-fill. Bummer because I was really looking forward to this one.
