- Sensational release and quality production all over this 12". Naturally "Baptised By Dub" and " Re-Baptised By Dub" gets everyone's attention but "Flynnys Theme" not so much despite it being a monumental piano tune! I first heard this on IBC pirate radio in the North West but was just credited as 'Larinal' for some reason and took me 10+ years to find it on this release! Total class on all tracks.
- Baptized By Dub is a stone cold classic, doesn't quite get the credit it deserves in my opinion.
A few tunes had used the dub, ska, ragga influence... Way In My Brain, Spliffhead, We Are IE - Criminal Minds then join in with a massive b line that you knew instantly... Keys/break follow combined with a really catchy beat & loop to get things moving.
Great different elements within this track, the vocal samples, Playing With Knives type piano break (which sent people bananas back in the day), plus the skilled hype scratch attack to wrap things up at the end.
All the DJ's rinsed this - I remember Grooverider & Master Safe battering this during 1992.
Can't beat the system? Go with the flow! - First favorite artist... Still #1 because of the memories were very, very, original...
Reviewed as A++ by the way... Fire. - Edited 10 years agoAll the records that become important in your life have a story because life is a collection of stories. For this one, my girlfriend in the early 90s had a little brother who was into jungle and early dnb. He played some decent nights, dj-ing along side dj rap, mickey finn and the like. He was clearing out all his moving shadow and whitehouse records stuff (none of us had space to hold on to everything back then and everyone needed money to buy the next new tune - dance was endlessly progressive and being the age we were, you'd never have thought you'd be revisiting this music - it existed for that moment). The scene was moving on. He gave this record to a close friend of mine and we have been digging it out year after year ever since. The scene moved on but we still listen to these old breaks. Not coz we're the old gits saying, 'It's been done before and better' (I hate that attitude), just because we love this style and to us it never gets old. Cheers Criminal Minds. I loved the reissue on reflex to - you boys were on like fat pat's thong.
