Reviews
- My copy is clean and quiet, no pops. Plays well, maybe not as dynamic a recording as other Queen LPs I have but good all the same
- Edited 4 months agoSounds very average to my ears. Haven’t heard the original pressing, so can’t compare it. The sound is a little bit flat, sonics aren’t that great. And it’s strange, but I have obvious IGD on the first and fourth sides...
Quiet surface - just a few acceptable pops. Cool gatefold and antistatic inner sleeves for the plates. - This is my favourite Queen album purely because of the condition Freddie was in and still produced an amazing album in his dying months .
- Edited 8 months agoAgree with what others have said below: great pressing, crappy mastering. It realy is a shame that the entire current Queen vinyl catalogue is sourced from cd quality digital masters… (Clearaudio Concept with MC - Clearaudio pre - NAD - Bowers & Wilkins 603 S2’s)
- Edited 3 years agoAs far as comparison to the first German DMM pressing, my copy of this new 2LP black vinyl re-issue sounds way way better than Deutsche original.
In practically all aspects like mass, bass, selectivity, resolution... all is better than I can hear in the DMM original.
Maybe it is related to my specific copy, maybe it's my system telling the truth (have very high resolution system). maybe the UK first press is much better than the German one. Don't know this.
But I know for sure what I'm writing here. To discove personal truth, anyone need to listen and make opinion on his own system using his own ears. - End result of this one. Original CD from 1991 is better. Something is missing on this, to me it sounds like it was mastered from a poor quality needle drop. It obviously wasn’t but that’s the best comparison I can make. There is a lack of spectral frequency, the highs aren’t there. It sounds a bit flat. No fidelity, even on the outer grooves where you’d expect the biggest sonic impact. The 1991 vinyl isn’t amazing either unfortunately. This ones never been done right for vinyl and it’s a shame as it’s such a well produced album, goes to prove though digital can be awesome (even if the whole spinning a black circle is lost) ;-)
- To me this pressing sounds absolutely fantastic. I never really got into this album until I bought this. My pressing is flat, quiet, and just sounds better and better when I turn up the volume. I have not heard an original pressing but I will not be seeking one out. I am very happy with this pressing.
