- Trying to work out if there's an unlisted pressing or if what I have is a variation of this one. My copy is very dark translucent red (only visible when held to the light) and has etched runouts: TOWNHOUSE MPO FACT 250 A2 and TOWNHOUSE MPO FAC 250 B2. "MPO" is scratched out on both sides, as is the "T" of "FACT" on side A. The pressing rings match Lyntone, not MPO. So what's going on?
- Another person on discogs, AndyPLewis, wrote a few comments down below that if you buy just one Joy Divison release this is the one. You are certainly entitled to your opinion but I've never heard anyone express anything like that. Maybe if you just want the five singles, this is the cheapest way to do it. Other wise this is the LAST album you would buy. I hope no one thinks this is some sort of career overview. The five non-album singles are here, but since this was put out they have much better compilations. Joy Division Permanent 1995 is what you'd want. Better yet, buy Heart and Soul, the box set. Best of all, get the following on vinyl: their two proper albums, and the compilations that collect the remaining track: Unknown Pleasures, Closer, Still, Substance (Version with two vinyl albums) and you're pretty much set. And maybe pick out the best live album they reissued. You need to hear them live, particularly for Stephen Morris's amazing drumming and Ian's vocals, and Bernard and Hooky are no slouches, so they sound pretty awesome on some of those official released concernts This one disc version of Substance [Substance (LP, Compilation) Fact250] is actually the only thing that has been superceeded by other compilations and is to be avoided.
- Edited one year agoIf you can have only one Joy Division album, this is the one to own! Purchased in 1989, and still playing it.
Excellent track selection, recording & pressing - but deduct one star for the manufacturing. The hole in my copy is around 1-2mm off centre, such that the tone-arm on my deck visibly oscillates while playing. That said, the manufacturing flaw hardly detracts from the musical enjoyment. Just be careful that you don’t miss the landing track! - I remember seeing an uk first press on ebay with the addition:"vinyl is translucent when held against strong light source.",just like UP and closer.....can anyone confirm this?
- Avoid the unofficial version!I'm furious with the copy I have received!and the seller is selling as new and unplayed!mine came with finger prints allover it,werent sealed, and has etching matks on the actual vinyl between autosuggestion and transmission!absolute crap audio quality,it stands out like a sore thumb on my sound system!i honestly believe a cassete version probably would sound better than this!please read my feedback for the link of the seller,to avoid buying one of these counterfeit records
- Joy Division - Substance (LP, Comp, Unofficial) (Factory (2), Rough Trade (2) - Fact250, RTD 70). Avoid this copy, its very poor quality audio!iv contacted the seller and iv had nothing but abuse and had bad feedback!the sound quality is very poor, so just be aware of these copies!going on my experience of buying one of these counterfeit copies,id advise on paying more for an original copy
