Reviews
- Never released white label demonstration test pressing on the Japanese Denon label from 1970. In fact, it’s entitled ‚Impression Of Africa‘, performed by Japanese progressive jazz pioneers Akira Ishikawa & His Count Buffalo & The Jazz Rock Band, Terumasa Hino Quartet & Toshiyuki Miyama & His New Herd and is not to be confused with Ishikawa’s Uganda release on Toshiba label. This one features completely different compositions: with Masahiko Sato leading the orchestra, the a-side is an tribal Avantgarde Free Jazz inspired session, while the b-side provides an overall more psychedelic Afro Prog Jazz Rock feel. The entire album is driven by heaviest afro drum percussion backbeats. however, this LP was never issued officially: rumour has it that one of the members objected for its release because the music was too progressive. that’s also the reason why a sleeve cover art was not made. Listed in Hans Pokora’s book with 6 stars, only a handful of copies were ever pressed and are known to be in existence in the hands of a few lucky collectors worldwide.
