One of the very few Madonna tracks I actually dig. 'Shep's Deeper Dub' is Deeper Dope meant for that underground crowd.

Great 90s House sound on this pressing. Both sides have VERY small runout spaces, and I can hear a SLIGHT bit of distortion towards the end of Side 1 in particular on my system. But, it’s a must-have for any Madonna singles completist like me!

Great 90s House sound on this pressing! Side 1 is a little crowded groove-wise (not much of a runout area), but still manages to bang (with ever so slight distortion in loud sections to my ear and on my system). Still recommended for the Madonna singles completist like me!

One of Madonna's greatest criticisms is that she always did everything too late to be considered an innovator in dance music. Indeed, by the time Madonna delivered something to the masses, the underground scene had already moved forward two steps. But one needs to remember that Madonna was recording solely for the masses anyway and to them, she was always ahead of her contemporaries. Thanks in no little amount to her legendary producer Shep Pettibone, she was responsible for one of the most revered House tracks of the early 1990s. While it was conceptually eclipsed by what the pioneers of House were currently doing, 'Vogue' remains a true classic and is arguably Madonna's greatest moments in the dance charts.

Come 1992, two years after 'Vogue', Madonna releases 'Deeper and Deeper', the second single off her already controversial 'Erotica' album. While it takes 'Vogue's' basic formula and expands it to sound more chic and New York, one still can't help but notice that the Queen of Pop is competing with her own previous creation; it even includes a snippet of lyrical content from 'Vogue'. But when considered in it's own right, 'Deeper and Deeper' is a highly enjoyable, albeit vastly under-rated, Madonna tune.
