- Edited 2 years agoIsn't it funny how different our tastes can be. For me, this is Phil's very best work. It's just so mature and emotional compared to some of his earlier pop songs.
I don't know there's a single bad track on this album, and I agree with the other poster - the order of music on the LP is far better than on CD.
I saw Phil in concert in Australia in 1990 when promoting this album, and I'll never forget the experience of hearing him play an extended drum solo. I had no idea what was coming (I was 18 and had no idea of his drumming credentials). The man is a drumming demon.
After the solo, which ran for about 10 mins, he had to have a sit down on the edge of the stage and sing a slow ballad.
Oh and his vocals live are almost imperceptible to his studio vocals - the dude is that good.
Love ya work Phil.
I have both the original Australian pressing and the modern re-release clear vinyl. In my opinion the original edges out the repress, even though the repress is spread over 2 records and the original is pushing 30 mins per side. - I've always had it on CD but it's nice hearing different running order. Give's the album a whole different vibe.
- The last of Phil's good albums, before he kind of lost his way. Released a few years after No Jacket Required, it did not quite reach the stratospheric success of the previous album, but is still quite listenable. Unfortunately the album is recorded digitally apart from drums and bass and suffers as a result (No Jacket Required was only mixed digitally).
