Reviews
Took a couple of listens, but "General Admission" is a solid hip-hop record. It has it's boasts and pride, but also it has it's heart-touching moments. Kellz really shines on the records where he plays narrator, via "Story of the Stairs" and "Merry Go Round", which are true heartbreakers, but realistic and thus deserve the most play in an era focused on playlists.
Now why wasn't the "Til I Die Remix" on this pressing? In an era where hip-hop heads are constantly complaining about new artists not paying homage, the original Est.99'ers a la' Bone are on the hook of this, and French Montana over guitars? Can't miss, I tell you.
The only issue with this record was that I wish it would have ended on the C-side but hey when "Kellz is on the playlist" why not spend a little extra time to hear him spit about a broad "in a white thong who's as dark as his heart?".
Yeah "this aint Em's Show" though the influence is strongly present: from the valium references, the shout-outs to a somewhat estranged daughter , jumping into cars while guns are involved etc. But "General Admission" is worth the ticket, just don't expect anything worthy of VIP status.
