- Edited 5 years agoWhat a slab of vinyl - both tunes are top notch. sounds crisp even today! BUYERS BEWARE - there are people selling 2004 represses of this and passing off as the original. As the labels are the same there is a key difference (for those that don't know or haven't spotted it) but on the black label side, the original version has a small "M" in the word FROM under the centre hole - where as the repress version has the same size font as the rest of the lettering. The repress also uses a slightly different type of font if you compare the pictures from stock photos. So it might be worth checking your copies for those that have purchased a copy after 2004
- No reviews of this classic piece of vinyl??? Tango & Ratty's finest hour with both tracks bookending the 'Hard Leaders III - Enter The Darkside' compilation in 1993, and rightly so. 'Tales From The Darkside' is a thumping breakbeat monster with heavy bleeps and a legendary hip-hop sample lifted from Eric B & Rakim's 'Follow The Leader'. The bass in this is just monstrous in the breakdown especially when combined with the half-speed breaks.
However, in my opinion, despite it's genius it doesn't compare with 'Final Conflict' on the flipside. Opening with ominous bleeps and those crunching Knight Phantom breaks. It then throws in some seriously sinister synth lines before hitting an even darker drop in the midsection. The whole track is backed by a pounding 4/4 beat in the background which brings a technoid feel to the track. This still sounds as essential as it was 20 years ago.
