- Edited one year agoDon't know about the rest of the world humanity, but I got full in the lo fi house scene around London when I discovered this release, and more than making me follow Mall Grab, it made me follow Church the label (I suspect this release raised the profile of Seb Wildblood to unprecedented levels), Distant Hawaii, Antinote and long etc. What caught my attention here was not the lo fi stuff, but going back to the raw french house sound ("Can't" was obviously the hit, which I heard for the first time in the first "italo" - please notice the quotes - Bicep Party in the place next and owned by Corsica Studios, the epicentre of that kind of house in London at that time, but my favourite is how well the sample works in "Down"), which was a relief from the dominating hiper compressed tech house with white noise bridges. I never understood the hate for the sound, but of course I never understood why all that hipercompressed drums and minimal unimaginative pads were so popular in electronic music journalism for so long, so to each their own.
- I prefer the alix alvares remix here. More than ten years ago...
https://www.discogs.com/Alicia-Keys-Feelin-Me-Feelin-U/release/266585 - Edited 7 years agoHmmmmm deliberate lofi mastering pressed to coloured vinyl, whats next? the pressing plant running sandpaper over the record coupled with a couple of deep scratchers to give it that authentic second hand feel. Seriously what is going on today.
- Edited 7 years agoApperently Im one of those old farts that just Dont understand this EP .
Maby thats the whole thing about this record :)
The old lofi EQ type of thing with an over horny grandma breathing tru the phone .....Dont know if i dig that ,..Its somewhat complicated i guess. - A lot of people have mixed feelings about this record. I like it. It's not amazing, but its solid. The production is crisp and minimal. I don't own it and probably won't buy it in the near future because I am not a working DJ who plays on large system. The magic of this record, especially the title track, I suspect resides in how it sounds on that large system, especially dropped at the right time. I own records such as this that I know devastate in that environment but sound so-so on earphones or at home on the decks. It's about context.
- this realease is an intersting example on marketing in nowadays "indepentent" music business. the music on the other hand pretty much mediocre. i guess there is a relation between those points.
