Sleeve: " Manufactured and Distributed by B&C Records Ltd. 37 Soho Square, London W1. (01734 3932).

NB There seem to be two versions of the first press gatefold sleeve - they are quite the same except one is heavily textured inside and out, the other is lightly textured on the outside but smooth inside.
As well as a label variation (see Trespass), with "℗ 1970" in smaller, bolder text.
The small, bold lettered ones are believed to be in general earlier copies.

With great anticipation I recieved my Pink Scroll in nice condition. I was already aware of Genesis in general muffled sound and hoped a first press could counter the worst of it. But sadly it doesnt deliver anything spectacular. Vocals in particular suffer the most being almost impossible to interpret at times, making your handy lyrics insert all the more essential. But surprisingly there seemes to be segments with less and more veiled sounds, leading me to wonder if its a stylistic choice of the artists. There are some great dynamics and punch here and even fidelity when the album decides to shine, maybe more so than other issues. Dusk and especially The Knife sound great, I wish White Mountain was that clear and dynamic. But Im sure just a slightly later UK press can deliver the same sound without the carried cost and difficulty to find a clean original.
Pink Scrolls are for collectors only and for those concerned about the muffled sound I hear the remasters give a more purposeful and clear delivery, but with some changes in the remixing.
Pick your poison as they say.

Additional information:

"There are a couple of label variations but the very first pressing has the small p next to the 1970 date in bold type (the later has a lighter type and larger P)."
