- Absolutely stunning record. I'm not gonna say more than ttearthman below did. Very inspirational, floating.. pulsating new age/ambient that doesnt feel modern or retro. Like the realstuff from the heyday of ambient/new age.. the early 80s. Stunning artwork.
- Edited 8 years agoHow does one rate the quality of an album like this? The music is not particularly emotive. On the contrary, it seems intended to relax and not excite; to calm emotions, not to raise them up. The album consists of seven long, meandering New Age beds of chromatic synthesizer music. Each track can only be distinguished from the last by saying something like, well, The Voyage and the Vessel is more square-pulse wave dominated and O'cean Dream is dominated by triangle and sine-waves. MatthewDavid's Mindflight perfectly emulates great New Age synthesizer music of the late 70's - early 90's, such as that by Laraaji and Michael Sterns. Much like those musical visionaries, it's heavily intellectual music that poses as spiritual music. But honestly, what is the difference really? The mind is the spirit. It's psyche. What matters if the music is not original? It's perfectly executed - it's good. At no moment during the show does any note fall flat. Nor does any rhythmic punctuation disrupt the flow. Each sonic layer is equilized so that the sound will pass almost unnoticed. Likewise, the album cover is designed by the same artist who designed the 2014 compilation of New Age music "I Am The Center". Even the cardboard cover of the vinyl release is the same material, as are the protective sleeves for the records themselves. It's almost as if Matthew David created an exegesis of "I Am The Center". These critical notes taken into account, you probably could not come up with a more perfect name than "Trust the Guide and Glide". It's a beautiful product. The New Age music equivalent of fan fiction. In today's market, you want quality for your hard-earned money. MatthewDavid's Mindflight delivers.
