Notes

"The River Of Crime!" episodes were introduced earlier [this year] via a unique CD-R subscription package with limited distribution. Now, for the first time, all five original episodes and the original Residents instrumental score are available in a traditional pre-recorded, limited edition, double CD package.

Sticker on sealed copies says: "Limited Edition 2-Disc Set includes bonus Instrumental Soundtrack CD - The first 5 episodes of The Residents groundbreaking River Of Crime on CD for the first time!"

One of my favourite Residents albums and one that seems to often get the short end of the stick when considered within the scope of their post-2000 "career resurgence". Randy's narration on this album is captivating and the way that true-crime anecdotes are weaved into the story and thematically intertwined with the main character's arc is immensely well-written and satisfying. Musically it's also excellent, but the instrumental disc on its own is mostly dull as at the end of the day it's meant to be a soundtrack to a story.

I would actually consider this a good entry point into the band's work as many of the more sonically unpleasant trademarks of the band are conspicuously absent from this album, and even the people I know who dislike The Residents a lot find this album quite compelling.
