- Title Name by publisher - 2xHD label is BILL EVANS - SOME OTHER TIME: THE LOST SESSION FROM THE BLACK FOREST VOL 1
- In 2021 new release Volume 2 of Album by Bill Evans, Eddie Gomez, and Jack DeJohnette. The recordings on this album constitute the material from a June 20th, 1968 session recorded by Hans Georg Brunner-Schwer (HGBS) and Joachim-Ernst Brendt in Germany’s Black Forest that was originally intended for release on HGBS’s legendary MPS label but for some reason were never released. This is no ordinary recording. It’s a remarkable document of an under-represented period in the career of one of the icons of Jazz.
Some Other Time is a newly unearthed Bill Evans studio album, initially recorded in 1968 in Germany but not released until this month. It still sounds fresh and alive almost 50 years later. Casual jazz fans know Bill Evans through his association with Miles Davis.
Bill Evans studio album volume 2 of one of the most extraordinary musical archeological finds, recorded June 20th, 1968 by Hans Georg Brunner-Schwer (HGBS) and Joachim-Ernst Brendt in Germany’s Black Forest. Originally intended for release on HGBS’s legendary MPS label, for some reason these recordings were never released. This is no ordinary recording. The recordings on this album constitute the material from a June 20th, 1968 studio session recorded by Hans Georg Brunner-Schwer (HGBS) and Joachim-Ernst Brendt in Germany’s Black Forest. This is no ordinary recording. This enthralling Bill Evans session was recorded five days after a famous performance at the 1968 Montreux jazz festival by Evans, bassist Eddie Gomez and drummer Jack DeJohnette. Verve’s Montreux live recording won a Grammy, but this studio session has been in the vaults ever since.
2xHD received Positive Feedback’s ‘Best Sounding album of the year’ award for this album two years in a row. - Edited 4 years agoI wish Resonance would stop with the RSD releases only for Lps. My local store Mills Records in KC, that gets the most RSD releases, hordes these Bill Evans releases, and sells them online for inflated prices the next day. Support your local record shop while they say screw the local customer. Just press a bunch Resonance so the greed can end and we all can get the goods!
- Edited 5 years agoWas so lucky to receive this jewel as a present. For sure this is one of the best albums of my collection.
That’s a great pressing of unique quality! - This was my first introduction to the uncompromising perfection of Resonance Records pressings. I've done my best to track them all down and have not been disappointed! This, however, is still my favorite... might be as close to perfect as they come!
