- Edited one year agoExcellent vinyl
-the recording is busy, as are the musicians but there is a geat live soundstage to this pressing
This is not a bungled remix like Agharta or Pangaea, but all 3 recordings are in acoustic environments that tend to reverberate, especially with the multi-layered arrangements that the band was doing.
Miles truly rips on this release! - Edited 8 months agoAbsolutely cr*p ! Almost no tops at all. Sound stage - disaster !!! Very distant sound ... just like music comes from your next door neighbour through the walls or you have got blanket on your speakers. Compared to CD edition from 1997. Heaven and Hell. I understand, these recordings were not 100% perfect in the first place, but this edition stinks. Do not buy this pressing if you have high end gear. Davis is up front on CD version, he is buried far deep behind on THIS vinyl edition. Music is absolutely fantastic !!! PS. Quite the same with 'We want Miles' on MOV. Impossible to listen to. Go for perfect Japanese edition and save your time and money. This Japanese edition is probably the best you can get on vinyl: https://www.discogs.com/release/4792502-Miles-Davis-Dark-Magus
- Simply wow. Such atmosphere and groove. One of my favorite Miles, and it really shines with this quality pressing.
- Swap inners otherwise you will end up with cloudy looking vinyl. Maybe a chemical in the poly lined sleeves.
- Excellent sound quality, excellent sleeve (sleeve is glosy and looks great). Recommended edition of great album.
- Dark Magus was recorded at Carnegie Hall in 1974 but went unreleased until 1977, in Japan only. Thus it didn't find a wide audience until of recent. This live show is a heavy, heady trip into the unknown. The name of the album draws from the "magi" or sorcerer or priest. The dark magic of this album plumbs the bassy depths while reaching supreme electric highs. Miles is in rare form and at creative peak. It is a newly re-discovered classic among Mile's post Bitches Brew experimentations fusing jazz, rock, funk, and electronics. This particular reissue by Music On Vinyl from the Columbia label is a real gem.
- Edited 4 years agoIncredible live testament of his last band/performances before the disappearance until 80/81. Impeccable reissue and listening to things like Nne it is suffice to say he just owned them all, light years ahead of the freest of the free modes of jazz/fusion/whateveryoucallit that permeated the 70s. I simply bow to this music
- Don't know how the origin LP from the 70s sounds. But this is great, played on an avarage turntable from 1981 in 2019. Don't miss it!
