- As a fan of The Lines since the early 80s I was waiting for a long time for their stuff to be released on CD after first hearing mention of the project in the mid-1990s. So to "Hull Down": I'm not sure what to make of it. It doesn't really sound like any other other releases by the band. Much more synth, which wasn't a major feature of The Lines' sound. It has some good moments, but lacks the eeriness and space of Ultramarine and Therapy, and the catchiness and naivete of say "Cool Snap". It could be a different band, apart from the odd moment, and some of the bass playing. It kind of sounds like a side project. Might be of interest to fans of post-punk synth music of the period, but that doesn't mean it would be of interest to fans of The Lines any more than Pete Shelley's "Sky Yen" would be of interest to Buzzcocks fans.. Listen to it on the Acute blog or Youtube before buying it.
- Edited 8 years agoGreat minimal wave/post-punk/synth stuff. Where in the World sounds like its built around Keep Me Hanging on when recorded on Jupiter. Haberdasher is truly hazy perfection.
