Sleevenotes:

The Passmore Sisters are from Leeds they have one single out, an EP of their BBC session is imminent and a new single will follow soon. Melodic and heartwarming, the Passmores do not wear all black. Give me humour. Give me...

Bog-Shed's rise to infamy has been littered with odd things. Someone says their singer wants to sing like Doris Day, er, they have an EP that's on Vinyl Drip that's great, and there's more soon.

The Brilliant Corners are from Bristol and they've already a reputation as long as their back catalogue. Tight and moving overtures from men who've been wrong footed in lerve.

The Rain (2) are from the wilds of Basingstoke. One classic 45 from last year called 'Tom Paine'. Jangled full of guitars and brimming with lyrical beauty, it's a big 10.4.

The Hit Parade have suffered. Heartstrings go pop. Four singles on their own JSH label tell the tale. Their next one could be on Stiff, they have an LP scheduled for later in the year on Dead Man's Curve, too. Pass the Kleenex.

The Dentists are East Anglia's answer to everything. A brace of great 45s have been bought and treasured by the brave. Songs and tunes that make you want to whistle (or thereabouts).

McCarthy are latest signings to the jolly busy Pink roster of acts. Through a melee of guitars (etc, etc) they tell stories and pack in emotion like there's no tomorrow. Investigate. Partake.

The Janitors are a rowdy bunch. Singles on the ever busy In Tape label, a session here and there and a mini-LP before you can catch your breath. They come from Newcastle (at the moment) and break many guitar strings. Grrrrrrrrrr.

Easterhouse are Manchester's most... well, that's difficult to pinpoint really. They're loud, noisy, outspoken, loud, noisy and loud. Politics and passion go hand in hand on their primal releases, check out their debut LP 'Contenders' and live a little.

The Empty Quarter is a meeting of minds. Where Youth from Brilliant meets Ben Watkins from The Flowerpot Men and all sorts of things develop. Albums on Illuminated and an eerie spectre in the attic.

Pulp are from Sheffield and they've been steadily building their reputation with some fine anthems on Fire Records. Last year's 'Little Girl' was a classic and their latest 'Dogs Are Everywhere' continues the trend.

Nottingham's C Cat Trance have developed into a multi-levelled, multi-talented crew using a strange fusion of inter-ethnic styles. Ah...Dr Livingstone, I presume...

Royal Family And The Poor flirted briefly with Factory and have recently wound up on Recloose. Are they new Beethoven, Brahams or whatever. Leastways, there are strings here and feeling. Emotion no option.
