Unfortunately the later pressings of this album are nowhere near as good as this first edition (we're talking at least 4dB of rolloff @10kHz). Vinyl quality is also much better. I still prefer my seriously banged up first edition to my excellent condition 90s reissues.
One of the best psych era albums I've heard. These guys are all masters of their instruments and vocal lines are spectacular. Even if you don't understand the words, you can feel them. There is definitely alot of folklore and folk inspiration there, and this is part of the charm and uniqueness. Still, heavy 'western' influences in the playing style and techiques.
Had this band surfaced in an english speaking country they would have been as big as all the giants of their time. The sound quality of the album is great, the execution is better. Phoenix's first 3 albums are simply fantastic!
