Notes
'Recycle' was to be a pair of 11-CD box sets compiling Joy Division and New Order material. Announced in January 1999 and due for release later that year, it never saw the light of day, possibly due to Rob Gretton's death. This bootleg CD-R from circa 2004–2005 purports to be a sampler associated with that unfinished anthology.
Warner's decision to abandon the project and just release a handful of rarities as bonus tracks on album reissues (which had mastering problems of their own) inspired the unofficial 2009 'Recycle' web project, which released a series of remasters and re-creations of tracks from all the Joy Division and New Order singles.
This CD-R has no direct connection to either project. It comes in a clear plastic jewel case with see-through front and back inserts giving the illusion (from the front) that the 'Recycle' logo is printed on the disc. However, the disc itself is a plain white CDr with no markings. This release was clearly designed with authenticity in mind as it sports the Peter Saville designed 'Recycle' logo, has a fictional Warner Bros catalog# and warns "Promotion Only - Not For Sale" on the back.
The audio quality of the vinyl transfers/unreleased material is mostly excellent.
Tracks 12, 14 & 15 previously unreleased,
Tracks 1 to 6 and 9 to 11 from previously available vinyl releases.
Tracks 8 & 16 from previously available CD releases.
Track 13 is from the 'Ruined In A Day' Cassette single (NUOMC 02).
Track 7 is an edited Exclusive Remix, as found e.g. on the Funky Alternatives 1 compilation.
Track 8 is a remastered version of the original.
