- Edited one year agoIn relation the the thousands of well intended comments across the pages of Discogs, asking to 'support the original artist'; worth mentioning that the original artist has been supported already. All the records listed on Discogs have been originally purchased at full distribution price.
This is the second hand market. As with a car, vintage clothing, a house or anything we may typically buy 'used', the money goes to the previous owner, not necessarily the hands that crafted... Only the very first purchase in the chain goes to the 'artist'.
And so, if the price is inflated, its because of the mark up needed on top of the full retail price plus shipping from the retail site (or disti, but many are buying a full priced retail copy purely to sell on, something you can't prevent unfortunately), that a trader would need to add in order to make a living. After which, there is the opportunity to make a bit more, on desirable records. If someone pays it, the marketplace follows. That is how prices become inflated (and the same in any industry), and so if there's a cheaper way to get it, and with the funds going to the artist, brilliant!! But let's understand why Discogs exists & accept that it's now a 'you snooze, you lose' affair when it comes to record shopping. At least we get a second chance.
I disagree that Jamie's track sounds a lot better, it's a different track, similar but different. They are both great tracks & PS's is an awesome stripped back take on the style. I managed to snag the repress. But if I'd missed it, I'd pay £20 for a copy any day, it's worth it to me.
