I hate the way this remaster sounds. It's low on volume, low in details, flat and toneless. It's not even a bit engaging. I just got my hands on the original UK-issue of this record in VG condition and despite all the cracks and clicks, it sounds MILES better than this.

I grew up listening to this on CD in the mid-to-late 90s and, while I haven’t heard any other pressing of this, this 2016 BG cut is close to flawless and sounds absolutely wonderful. DSD pressed well is the future of reissues anyway, once all the tapes are dead, so we’ll probably shelve our analogue stridency.

I had the 2016 cut of DSOTM and, in the spirit of finding analogue cuts, I bought NM copies of MoFi’s 1979 and Kevin Gray’s 2003 pressings. I admit I haven’t heard a UK OG pressing (I’m trying to get a German OG from Michael Ludwig), but the 2016 sounds better than both analogue cuts I own. That’s not to say it’s the best cut out there - obviously - but it is to say these 2016 remasters are really phenomenal, especially if you just want great sounding pressings of these records. I also have the 2016 cuts of WYWH and had ANIMALS before I replaced it with the “2018” remix (which is the best version of ANIMALS to my ears due to the remix). But the 2016 ANIMALS reissue did sound great for the original mix.

You really won’t go wrong with these 2016 reissues.

in some places there are quite loud clicks and crackles, on side 4 - there is a terrible overload and distortion in one channel... it is very shameful to produce such a low-quality product...

I bought this remaster. Made in the EU. I listened to it all. Extremely high quality. The album is very quiet, there are no noises or pops. There is a very slight (hard to see) factory scratch on side 3 that is not audible. I recommend this edition.

Side b or side 2 scratched up and sounds noisy and bad on both copies of this album/pressing I’ve got. Straight from still sealed packs, scratches on the same track on the same side.

Horrible. Modern pressing plants are a joke.

Side 2 has constant crackling and crunching sounds throughout. Cleaned it with ultra sound cleaner. Still sounds terrible. Does not matter if the mastering is good, this has a pressing defect. Can´t enjoy the record due to the damage to the vinyl. Haven´t listened to sides 3 & 4, the record is going back after listening to side 2 and washing it and still finding the same defect. Can´t wash away a pressing defect!!!!!!! I can only guess all the pressings have this defect judging from the comments below. What a shame....

I'm going on the fourth copy I trade. LP 2 always with manufacturing defect. Always scratched which is amazing the lack of quality control.

This album has so much great memories from my teenage years. I love this album. that said, I had to return this pressing twice because of deep scratches that were made during production. The copy I have now still has some minor production issues.

What an album! Not so much of a quiet record though… the sound is great and not far of the original, which is good, but with a modern and brighter touch I’d say. But damn it’s noisy! Gave it a good clean but still not as quiet as I’d hope it’d be. No scratches but I’d say it definitely alters the listening experience. Still 5 stars for the good remastering and the overall amazing album!

As other people have already said, there are some crackles, but, on my copy at least, they are minimal and in no way ruined the experience for me. Fortunately, side 3, which is my favourite, sounds almost perfect: quiet and with great dynamics.
