Reviews
- I agree this is the "worst" pressing of the 2016 remasters. Had to wash it multiple times. A1 has a very loud repeating pop for about two minutes and visible scratches. Apart from that it sounds great, full and very dynamic on my system, though it is a little low on volume.
- Edited 5 months agoGood digital remaster, but the quality issues neuter the remastering. I just opened and played my copy. From the factory there is a skip on A1, a decent amount of surface noise on LP 1 after multiple wet cleans, and both LP's have a lot of visible scratches when a flashlight is shined on them. I'm disappointed in the quality issues of this pressing, as I have a 2016 WYWH and it's leagues better quality wise.
- Edited 7 months agoI was long argueing to buy it...i have an original German pressing of DSOTM from 1973. Which hast Run maybe 100x times on my system and the pre-owner...and it sounds still better than this? At first, i checked Stylus because the clicks and cracklings are soo bad, thought my Setup has issues. The cracks take me in person total away on an Album which has so many quiet parts.. the remastering quality of the Sound is rich and good...but in ALL quiet Phases of the Tracks are constant crackling (fresh openend Version, washed in a Spincare ) This pressing has big quality issues.. you can Hear the defects on any decent Drive ...Side A2 is most problematic...constant crackling on the First 3 Tracks.. sad for this big Album! on tracks like "Hey You" and "Run like Hell", the Mix is nearly perfect. i always benchmark on a live performance.
- First seconds of LP 1 has audible scrachtes and surface noise - the rest of the full recoding is perfect!
It is a shame. that they cut-off the frequencies at 18kHz... - First copy was scratched pretty badly on all 4 sides. Second copy luckily came in better condition, but still has some clicks and pops most noticeable on side 3.
- Don't think I've heard other vinyl copies of this, I do agree the volume is very low. Otherwise nothing to complain about.
- This is a fairly competent digital remaster, but my original '79 Terre Haute first pressing has loads more detail, dynamics and separation. It's not a fault of the production or mastering - it's just really hard to duplicate or exceed the quality of a fresh analogue tape mastered in vinyl's heyday. This album can relay what The Wall sounded like. The original pressing - which is not that much more expensive - can tell you what it FELT like.
- Edited 11 months agoI hate the way this remaster sounds. It's low on volume, low in details, flat and toneless. It's not even a bit engaging. I just got my hands on the original UK-issue of this record in VG condition and despite all the cracks and clicks, it sounds MILES better than this.
- I grew up listening to this on CD in the mid-to-late 90s and, while I haven’t heard any other pressing of this, this 2016 BG cut is close to flawless and sounds absolutely wonderful. DSD pressed well is the future of reissues anyway, once all the tapes are dead, so we’ll probably shelve our analogue stridency.
I had the 2016 cut of DSOTM and, in the spirit of finding analogue cuts, I bought NM copies of MoFi’s 1979 and Kevin Gray’s 2003 pressings. I admit I haven’t heard a UK OG pressing (I’m trying to get a German OG from Michael Ludwig), but the 2016 sounds better than both analogue cuts I own. That’s not to say it’s the best cut out there - obviously - but it is to say these 2016 remasters are really phenomenal, especially if you just want great sounding pressings of these records. I also have the 2016 cuts of WYWH and had ANIMALS before I replaced it with the “2018” remix (which is the best version of ANIMALS to my ears due to the remix). But the 2016 ANIMALS reissue did sound great for the original mix.
You really won’t go wrong with these 2016 reissues.
